Learn about Wind Power at the American Wind Power Center and Museum. Lubbock, Texas has a number of great things for people to do and see, from great museums to great places to grab a bite to eat. The town offers something for just about everyone in the family. One of the most popular and interesting places to visit is the American Wind Power Center and Museum.

Located on top of a hill, many different types of windmill that come in different colors and shapes surround the museum. Inside the museum, you can see many different wooden windmill styles and other exhibits.

The museum showcases and explains the history of the American water pumping windmill, this history of the windmill, and all of the related exhibits that have to do with getting electricity through the power of the wind.

Visitors to the museum will be able to learn all about the creation of the windmills, the companies that produced tens of thousands of them in the late 1800s through the early 1900s. You can see tons of great photos of the many various types of windmills used throughout their history.

Guests will also see some wonderful windmill inspired artwork inside the museum as well.

Outside the museum, there are some great photographic opportunities with all of the different kinds of windmills as well as more exhibits. You can see a large industrial wind turbine that generates electricity.

Don’t forget to visit the gift shop before you leave the museum grounds. You will find many different items that make wonderful souvenirs, from metal windmill replicas to science weather experiments to do with the kids.

The American Wind Power Center and Museum is open from May to September. Closed on Mondays, the museum is open from 10AM to 5PM from Tuesday through Saturday. It is open from 2PM to 5PM on Sunday. Admission to the museum is free, which fits everyone’s budget! However, you may wish to make a small donation, which goes to keeping the museum running.
