Schlitterbahn Water Park - South Padre and Galveston Texas

Schlitterbahn-Texas’ Oldest and Most Popular Waterpark

In German it means ‘slippery road.’ Once you have visited the best known and oldest waterpark in Texas, you will understand why this name was chosen. When the temperatures in Texas begin to soar, locals and visitors alike flock to Schlitterbahn to cool off.

The original waterpark is located in the scenic Hill Country in central Texas in the Germanic town of New Braunfels. The combination of the crystal clear waters of the Gaudalupe River and the stunning backdrop of Texas Hill Country terrain create a winning combination for this waterpark. In addition to the waterpark in New Braunfels, two other Schlitterbahn waterparks have been constructed in Texas. These waterparks are located in South Padre and Galveston. The Galveston Schlitterbahn is the newest waterpark.

One of the reasons that Schlitterbahn has become so popular is the fact that it offers an extensive variety of activities and rides. All in all, Schlitterbahn offers visitors more than three miles of tubing with a variety of different options. Visitors can choose to relax while they enjoy a lazy float down the Kristal River or enjoy something more exciting when they enter the wild rapids known as the Whitewater Tube Chute. There are also three watercoasters, a unique alternative to the much beloved rollercoaster. In addition, the first artificial wave machine in the world is located at Schlitterbahn. There are also a whopping seventeen waterslides to ensure that everyone remains cool during the Texas summer.

There are also many different age appropriate rides and pools so that even young children can enjoy themselves with no safety concerns. Onsite food vendors and restaurants make it easy to dine and snack. Along with the standard concession type options, such as pizza and barbecue, there are also numerous cooling stations located throughout the park that sells cold drinks and ice cream. In addition, guests are welcome to bring snacks and coolers into the waterpark with them, provided that they do not bring in any alcoholic beverages or glass containers.

Schlitterbahn New Braunfels is located at 305 West Austin Street. Adult admission is $34.50 for a one day pass with a two day pass offering a discount at $54.27. Child admission is $28.50 for a one day pass and $43.88 for a two day pass. In addition, season passes are also available. Schlitterbahn opens in late May of each year and remains open through August.
