Texas Military Forces Museum - Camp Mabry - Austin, Texas
This museum was built to honor the men and women who served in the military forces of Texas. The history of all major Texas National Guard units is now preserved with exhibits and written histories for everyone to share.
Beginning with the Texas War for Independence and going through the history of all major conflicts the museum tells the story of the great people serving Texas and the Nation. Not only is there a main gallery there are others that share the history of: the Texas Air National Guard; the 36th Infantry Division; and the "Lost Battalion" (2nd Battalion, 131st Field Artillery); The Great Hall exhibit of aircraft, weapons, equipment and vehicles; Armor Row and the Artillery Park on the West side of the museum. Along with these exhibits are jet aircraft; helicopters; and artillery pieces that you can get close to and gain a better understanding of what the troops worked with in conflict. There is also a historical achieves collection and library available for those that desire to do research or just learn the history.
The exhibits include: Texas Revolution; War Between the States; Buffalo Soldiers; Spanish-American War; World War I; Between the Wars; World War II; Captured Enemy Equipment; History of Military Aviation; Weapons Display; Korean Conflict; Vietnam War; The Gulf War; 49th Armored Division; Texas Cavalry; The Great Hall; Texas Hall of Heroes; Peace in the Balkans; some Special Exhibitions and outdoor Exhibits; Texas Air National Guard; 36th "Texas" Infantry Division and of course the Library Archives and Flag Repository.
Location: Building 6 on Camp Mabry in Austin. 2200 West 35 St., just west of Loop 1 (MOPAC Blvd.). You must have a photo ID to enter the camp.

Hours: Wednesday - Sunday 10 - 4, closed on Monday and Tuesday. During Inclement weather the museum will be closed, if the schools are closed due to weather the museum will also be closed.
Tours: Free tours of the museum may be scheduled by calling 512-782-5659 between 9 - 4 Monday through Friday. Special tours of the Thomas S. Bishop Al Faiths Chapel are available on request.
